Municipal officials and housing developers should be aware of and seek to meet identified needs for accessible homes, as well as fulfill all applicable federal housing accessibility requirements, such as:
Privately-owned or publicly-assisted housing of four or more units per Fair Housing Act. See the Fair Housing Act Accessibility Guidelines
At least 1 unit or 5% of the dwelling units in federally-assisted housing developments of five or more units must be accessible in accordance with the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards
Housing provided by public entities and public and common use areas in housing developments need to be accessible per the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
