Building trades offer decent wages and a career path for many that do not want to pursue college. The current building trades workforce in the region must grow to meet the current demand for services and provide services at rates affordable to all residents. Communities and local trade schools should collaborate to grow this workforce through education, recruitment and fiscal sponsorship. Training programs should advance a well-rounded education with a focus on services with a known need, including lead paint abatement, energy efficiency upgrades and physical accessibility upgrades.
