“The community where I currently rent is crowded. There isn’t space for additional buildings, and I would not want to see any deforestation to support new construction.”

Collecting reliable and consistent data will be key to monitoring housing needs in the Greater Upper Valley region. Reliable data enables the region and communities to understand current conditions, consider future housing needs, and adapt to change. This can be achieved by 1) identifying and monitoring key indicators of housing needs, 2) supporting current data collection efforts, and 3) advancing new needed data collection efforts.

While there are many housing datasets currently provided by federal, state and local agencies, significant data gaps remain, especially on specific types of housing and the unsheltered population.
