Existing programs and funding have created considerable numbers of affordable homesbut those homes are still a small fraction of what the residents of the region need. Additional ways of designing, funding, restoring, and building homes need to be explored to meet the scale of the problem. See the Models for Homes component for more information.  This includes but not limited to:

  • Small-scale developers that focus on converting existing homes into tri- or fourplexes using an incremental approach.
  • A non-profit utility that can offer financing, plans, permitting, legal, construction and management support to make it easier for homeowners (See details in Tool – Create a resident developer non-profit ‘utility’).
  • Programs that support homesharing and co-housing, especially for seniors.
